Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Reporting Street Light Outages:

You can always report street light outages to Borough Hall (856) 467-0202. However, Atlantic City Electric has a simple form on their website that will more than likely speed up the process!

Trash/Vegetative Waste/Bulk Pickup/Recycling programs:

Reminder: Trash/Recycling collection is every Thursday. Bulk trash pickup is on the 1st Friday of every month. Please remember to call Borough Hall to be put on the Bulk pickup list. E-Waste is the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month and again you must call Borough Hall to be put on the list for pick up. Leaf collection/yard waste is every Thursday during the months of March through November, on the 1st and 2nd Thursday in December, and the 1st Thursday in January and February. Leaves/yard waste must be placed in a separate trash container (not your brown or blue can) or biodegradable bags. Trash/bulk items placed at the curb that are not on the list or out before scheduled pick up will result in a letter from the code department and/or possible court violations.

Snow Removal:

Pursuant to Borough Code property owners and/or tenants are required to remove all snow and ice from sidewalks within twelve (12) hours of daylight after a storm.  If the Borough has to clear a sidewalk to ensure the safety of students walking to school or for general safety concerns the property owner will be billed for costs incurred and a lien will be placed on the property. In addition, the property owner could be issued a summons to appear in court and be subject to penalties. Residents also need to remove parked cars from streets to allow for efficient and thorough plowing of snow.

Grass cutting:

Property owners and/or tenants are required to maintain their grass. Grass is not to exceed 6” in length. All grass and yard clippings must be picked up and properly disposed of. Grass and yard clippings are not to be swept or blown into the streets so as to avoid going into the storm drains.

Water/Sewer Bills:

Reminder water/sewer bills are due on a quarterly basis 1/1, 4/1, 7/1, and 10/1 with a ten day grace period.

Tax Bills:

REMINDER:  Tax Bills are due on 2/1/13, 5/1/13, 8/1/13, and 11/1/13 with a ten day grace period. Please Note:  In lieu of mailing homestead rebate checks the State of New Jersey now sends the credit amount directly to the municipality.  The municipality will then calculate an adjusted bill to credit those homeowners receiving rebates. This is State Law, not the Borough’s.

Water Restrictions:

Pursuant to Borough Code between the months of April and October outside water usage must be on alternate days as designated by house or box number.  If your house number or box number is even, you may use water for an outside purpose on an even calendar day of the week. If your house number or box number is odd, you may use water on an odd calendar day of the week.  “Outdoor Water Usage” includes watering of lawns and plants, the filling of pools and the washing of cars.   Any person violating this regulation is subject to fines.  Your cooperation is appreciated.

Pet Licenses:

Please be advised dog/cat licenses are to be renewed on a yearly basis. Starting January 1, 2013 you were able to obtain your 2013 pet license. After April 1, 2013 the animal license will be considered late and a $10.00 late fee will be charged.

REMINDER:   In order to obtain a license the rabies vaccination must be good through October 31, of the licensing year.

RABIES CLINIC THIS YEAR IS SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, MARCH 16, 2013 FROM 1:00 TO 3:00 P.M. AT THE WOOLWICH FIRE HOUSE.

Rental Property Registration:

As a reminder, please be advised that Swedesboro has a Landlord Registration Ordinance that states that all rental units located in the Borough must obtain a registration license and every other year undergo an inspection.  This is an annual license.  The registration fee is $75.00 for each unit that is licensed.  Failure to license a property will result in a summons to appear in court, additional fees and the property cannot be rented. A $75.00 late fee is charged if the registration forms are not returned by January 31, 2013.

Reminder that CO inspections must be obtained through Woolwich Twp. Construction Office each time the landlord changes renters.

Yard Sale Permits:

Please be advised that as per borough code yard sale permits must be obtained prior to the sale and are limited to three per year, per person/location.
