Catherine Botto: A Swedesboro Legacy

The Borough has lowered its flags in honor of Mrs. Catherine Botto—an extraordinary woman, beloved by many as the matriarch of the Botto family and the welcoming face of their market. While she was known for running a tight ship, she greeted everyone with a warm smile and a kind word. Her pride in her family and their business was unmistakable, and for many of us, her ricotta cookies will always be fondly remembered as the very best.

Mrs. Botto lived a remarkable life. She emigrated to the United States at the age of 16 and made Swedesboro her home in 1964. Together with Big Bob Botto, she helped build a lasting legacy—opening the original Botto’s Market, expanding their sausage company in 1965, acquiring Kings Colonial Market in 1973, and ultimately establishing Botto’s Italian Line Restaurant and catering facility in 1998. Through her hard work and dedication, she helped shape a business that became a cornerstone of our community.

For decades, Mrs. Catherine Botto was truly an institution in the Borough of Swedesboro. Her presence, generosity, and spirit touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

On behalf of the Borough, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the entire Botto family.
