Letters from The Mayor:September 14,2009

Dear Lakefront Resident,

Several property owners have requested that the Borough apply for the necessary NJ DEP permits to lower the water level in Lake Narraticon for a short period of time to allow them to complete maintenance work that will require the level to be lowered for access to the area. There is a defined window of time that we are permitted to take such action at our Lake; this year the time period is between October 9th and December 9th. Therefore, in response to residents request, we will petition the NJ DEP to allow us to lower the level in Lake Narraticon from October 23rd through November 9th. This will provide residents with two (2) full weeks and three (3) weekends to complete any repairs that they need to take care of at this time.

We want to maintain the lower level in the Lake for as short a time as possible to have the least impact on fish and wildlife, so if all maintenance activities are complete earlier than November 2nd we will restore the Lake to his normal level ahead of the permitted schedule.

The Borough’s Environmental Commission and Clean Communities group will be making an effort to organize volunteers to clean up the banks of the Lake during the period when the level is lowered. Your participation in this effort would be greatly appreciated and any other volunteers that you can rally to help out would be a tremendous help

If you have any questions or concerns with the timing of the lowering of the level in Lake Narraticon from October 23rd through November 9th please contact Chuck Simmerman as soon as possible at 467-5157.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Thomas W. Fromm
Mayor of Swedesboro
