SWEDESBORO – Plans are in the final stage for two great events in downtown Swedesboro this May. The 7th Annual Outdoor Living and Garden show will be sharing the town with the Swedesboro Historical Society’s 2nd Annual “Alive with History” trolley tour.
On May 18th from 9am – 3pm the town will be abuzz with activity as people of all ages are welcome to attend these two events.

The Outdoor Living and Garden Show is shaping up for its best year yet with a variety of outdoor living activities that will educate and entertain the whole family. Admission for the event, as always, is FREE.
This year’s event will be held on Kings Highway between Franklin and Church Streets, and will feature plenty of great FREE activities for kids . Children will be able to create a flower box, decorate a watering can, use the tree climb pulley by Tree Awareness or visit with Todd Marcus and his exotic birds. The chalk drawing contest will also be held with prizes awarded to the 1st to 3rd place winners in each of the age catogories. Registration can be done on-line or on the day of. New this year will be the jump rope making machine. The children weill have a hands on experience of making their own jumprope.
Many of our local growers will be displaying a variety of plants (annuals and perennials) shrubs and trees. They will be able to assist you with your plant selection and answer your gardening questions.
The exhibitors/artist this year are outstanding with many of who are ‘green’ in that they craft items (planters, jewelry, lawn ornaments) by refurbishing, repurposing or reusing items that would ordinarily find their way into landfills. A brief list of items on display will be recycled granite cheese boards, recyled silverware into beautiful metal flowers, handmade baskets, recycled bottles into lanterns, recyled dishes into lawn ornaments, handmade soap, honey products and birdhouse made from gourds.
Also on display will be lawn mowers, pools & spa, gutter guards and other items that make you outdoor living more enjoyable.
The Master Gardeners will be educating the vistors on drying herbs. Costello’s Garden Mart of Deepwater will be discussing butterfly gardens. Local author/cook, Judy Nardella, will be signing her new cookbook “Gathering Around Judy’s Kitchen”. All proceeds from the sale of her book are donated to Children’s Hospital.
The 6th graders at the Walter Hill School under the direction of the art teacher, Laura Hubbard, have beautifully decorated terracota planters that will be silent auctioned off . The proceeds will go toward the 6th grade graduation.
During the Outdoor Living and Garden Show, visitors will have a rare opportunity to enjoy a trolley tour through Swedesboro to visit the many historic cemeteries in town. Each stop in this unique new event will feature a reenactor portraying a notable Swedesboro native at their final resting spot. Swedesboro’s “Alive with History” trolley tour will cost $10
