Free Kayaking events a huge hit this summer!

Swedesboro Lake Park, situated on Lake Narraticon, played host to two hugely popular kayaking events this summer.  The kayaking events which are sponsored by S/W Environmental Commission and Municipal Alliance work in conjunction with Splash & Paddle, a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to teaching people about kayaking, canoeing and water safety.

Splash & Paddle and other volunteers bring dozens of kayaks, canoes and life vests to the lake for a full day of paddling around for anyone that wants to give it a try!

The two events held in July and August averaged around 300 participants from all around South Jersey.

It wasn’t all boating on the water, however. The event also included a lot of backyard fun to enjoy while waiting or taking a break from kayaking. Participants could have some fun with bubbles and water guns, bean bag toss games or chow down on some hot dogs and hamburgers from Logan Lunchbox.

This August, the event introduced a new portion to a great day at the lake. South Jersey Fly Fishers set up to teach people about fly fishing and offer them an opportunity to tie and cast a fly!

Your input is needed for the Open Space and Recreation Plan

An Open Space and Recreation plan project is underway, setting goals and timelines for community needs including passive and active recreation, trail systems, waterway access, and will develop a timeline and suggestions for best possible land uses throughout Swedesboro and Woolwich to meet these goals.

The public is encouraged to participate in this process as we plan and map our future recreational needs and opportunities and create a plan that will take our community well into its future.

We urge all Swedesboro and Woolwich Township Residents to take our Open Space and Recreation Plan Survey by clicking on the following link:

“I’d like to thank the Swedesboro Auction Board of Directors for their patience throughout this process and for entrusting us to preserve an important part of the agricultural history of our community.  I also need to thank Ken Atkinson of the County’s Land Preservation office and the Board of Chosen Freeholders who played an important role in making this a reality.”

“Stay tuned for the next exciting news about the future of the Swedesboro Auction property.”
